Perry is Perry is a Chicago native birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were as Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played the role. Fearing stress, her parents were not keen to let performing before turning 18. Perry states that she did not want to perform in highschool but decided to start acting as a social activity during her time at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry moved in New York to search for television work landing small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California where she found acting work. She performed on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. She performed with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played nine roles in The Family, an ABC thriller The Family, in 2016. In 2017, she played an recurring role in The ABC drama about politics Scandal with her father. That same year she was cast as a younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's role. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character she received the role through an audition.
